In the Present Moment, There is No Death

In the present moment, there is no death.

Then where is death? It is somewhere in the future. It is on its way, but it hasn’t arrived yet. When you are in the past and future world of the mind, you can anticipate the future. You can imagine the future. And that is where you will find death. Each day, death is approaching. It is coming closer. This creates fear and anxiety for many people, often at an unconscious level. It accounts for our feelings of fear, vulnerability and mortality, and it completely overlooks that dimension of us that is immortal.

However, if you are fully present, there is no thought, and so there is no future. There is only this moment, and death does not exist in this moment. For death to exist, you would have to leave the present moment and enter the world of the mind. You would have to peer into an imaginary future to find it. It has no connection to the present moment.

Even if you are in the last few moments of your existence here on Earth, there is no death if you can remain present. For example, if in this moment, you are fully present with your breath, there is no sign or thought of death. If in the next moment, you are still present with your breath, then still no death! You are relaxed. There is no holding on. There is no fear of the unknown. You are simply present with your breath, moment to moment. Perhaps you can hear the rain outside your window or the sound of a bird singing. You are present with the sound. Or you are present with the fragrance of the flowers next to your bed. In Presence, you experience no fear or anxiety, just a feeling of gratitude. Then suddenly, you leave the body. This is not death! It is simply a transition to another dimension. It is a transition from the physical dimension of your existence to a higher, formless dimension. You are simply leaving your body, like casting aside an old overcoat that you no longer need. For many people, it will feel like coming home.

On the other hand, if you have not awakened during this lifetime, you will be born again. You will be given another chance to free yourself from the illusion of separation and open into Oneness, truth, love and God. If, however, you have truly awakened in this lifetime, then your return to the physical plane is optional. But why would you not want to return? After all, once you truly awaken, you recognize that this beautiful planet is indeed Heaven manifested on Earth.
